Add a WOW Effect to your website - Use Video Testimonials By Tom Malesic
For the last 12 years I have recommended that our clients add testimonials to their website.
Why?
Testimonials add credibility to your business. If you see a website with 20 plus testimonials, you get a sense of what the business does well.
The pessimist says, "Oh well you could have just made those up. How do I know that is even a real person? And besides who would put up a bad testimonial."
Here is my answer to help these skeptics feel more connected to your testimonials.
Make them VIDEO TESTIMONIALS!
So now you're saying to yourself... It was hard enough to get a written testimonial, how on earth am I going to get a video testimonial? I can't afford to pay a video company to get these and how will I get my clients to do this?
When you put it that way it looks like a big project. Yuk!
Here's the good news. Why make it hard? Let's do it the EZWay...
Here's how we make this EZ for you.
- Step 1. Buy a Flip Video Camera. This is smaller than my blackberry.
- Step 2. Carry it with you everywhere you go.
- Step 3. When you see a client in your office, their office or anywhere (I have done these in restaurants) ask them if they would mind giving you a video testimonial.
Here's how you do it. Tell them you are working on some new creative marketing for your business. In this tough economy you need to stay on top of your game. One of your new ideas is to get video testimonials from your favorite clients. (Now they feel flattered). Simply say, "Would you help me out by giving me a video testimonial?"
They'll say yes, for 2 reasons...
1. They want to help you out.
2. They think you will schedule a time to do this. (wrong)
You say - GREAT! You pull out your camera (they will be intrigued with the camera).
Now they get nervous. They start to worry that they don't look good today. It's a bad hair day, they want to lose 10 pounds, and they don't like what they are wearing... you get the idea. Or they say "I'm not sure what to say."
Tell them all they need to do is say their name, the name of their business (if that is important to you) and what they like best about your company or why they use and recommend you. If they hesitate again... pull out the help me out sales line.
That's it. You want them to talk for 20-30 seconds.
Tip: The trick is that you want these videos to look 'real' not staged or professional. It's ok if they say um, if a phone rings in the background or if you hear someone else talking. It can NOT appear that they are reading a script. If you follow my format you are not letting them read. These are impromptu and natural videos.
- Step 4. Getting the video from the camera to your computer.
This is really easy. The camera has a built in USB drive. Plug it into your computer and copy the file over. Then email the file to us. We will take care of the rest!
