Benefits of Managed Services
From Jeff Weaver, General Manager Technical Services Division

Since the last newsletter, I have gotten many phone calls from you asking about managed services and how it works. Many of you also asked about the benefits of managed services. My list of benefits is long, but I want to focus in on a few.

Managed services is the 24/7 proactive monitoring of your servers and systems, designed to cut your down time to as close to ZERO as we can get it.

Managed services:

  1. Keeps downtime to a bare minimum through proactive network monitoring, patch management and device optimization.

  2. It allows you to tap the resources of IT specialists that you would never have on staff. With a fixed price "all inclusiv" monthly payment, you know exactly what your costs will be; there are no surprise costs.

Increased Business Efficiency
Most of our small business clients do not have the luxury of resources to compete toe-to-toe with big name competitors. So you need to run as lean and efficiently as possible. Managed services are a proactive business development tool. Anything you can do to keep the delivery of your product organized, focused and productive, throws money to your bottom line and extends the life and viability of your business.

Increased Customer Service and Business Productivity
A well-defined managed services contract with clear service expectations is a tool to help you elevate the level of your customer service. If you are not spending your time on IT issues, you can build strong customer relationships. This sets you apart in a highly competitive market, where relationships are often turned into commodities. Take the time to use technology to your advantage and make it work for you, rather than you working for it.

Great Focus on core business and key skills.
Instead of managing infrastructure, vendor relationships, and break/fix issues from your receptionist, you can concentrate on your core business. Time is maximized. Cost is minimized and speed is accelerated, allowing you to focus on key business issues.

The Success Factor
Your success is our success! Our success is measured in preventing computer problems from escalating into downtime, lost data, interruptions in business and lost revenue. When you succeed, we succeed.

Getting to Know... Josh Burkholder

Josh Burkholder joined EZSolution in April 2008. Around the office we refer to Joshua as our "Marine" as he is a member of the U. S. Marine Corp reserve, with the rank of Corporal.

On a pretty regular schedule he leaves town for weekend drill, and once a year he takes off for 2 weeks in the summer and heads to exotic locations. This July found him camping in the desert in Nevada at Hawthorn Weapons Depot.

Josh lives in Elizabethtown with his wife, Jenn, a recent LBC graduate. He and Jenn also just celebrated their first anniversary.

Josh loves to spend time in the outdoors, so camping and hiking are two of his favorite recreations. Not surprisingly one of his interests includes strategy gaming.

About EZSolution, Josh says, "it has a great group of customers to work with. I get into so many different situations, that the work is never boring." Thanks Josh, we are glad to have you as part of our team.

Website Testimonial
Miller Optical:

"I liked the offer made when you asked to rebuild our site. I liked Tom's approach.

Everything went smoothly. They have a lot of attention to detail. When times were set for a meeting or phone call they were all on time, to the minute. I knew that if I was going to get a call at 2 pm it was going to be 2 pm.

I like the fact that when changes are needed on the site that I'm only billed for the time it takes to make those changes. No minimum time or dollar amount.

I was most impressed when I also made a call to EZSolution early one morning. It was before regular business hours and Tom picked up the phone and resolved my problem in a couple of minutes. This little extra effort made my problem as small as it could possibly be and had I needed to wait until 9 am, or whatever time you open, to speak to somebody I would have had a much more difficult time getting the problem resolved.

I appreciate the ease of which everything is handled."

- Glenn Miller

6 Keys to a Profitable Website
When looking at successful websites, these are elements that your website should have.

  1. Design
The graphic design of your site is critical! Sharp graphics and good design principles will keep your Internet customer interested. Your website should be designed for your target audience. The site design should also reflect your overall company image. The design of the site should be clean and professional, and most importantly, visually fit into your overall marketing plan.

  2. Speed
In traditional marketing and advertising, speed is not an issue, but in Web Marketing, speed is as important as design. If your site is slow to appear, potential customers will switch to view someone else's site instead of waiting for yours. Make sure that all of your pages load fast.

  3. Navigation
Navigation is a key point that is often overlooked by even large companies. Your site needs to be user friendly and your visitor needs to see what categories are available at all times.

If your site appears to be a game of hide-and-go-seek, the joke is on you. Also, if someone has to click more than 3 times to find the information they are looking for, you have lost them.

Your site design should include a menu navigation bar on every page so the visitor can easily access designated pages of the site from his or her current page location.

The site should be designed to avoid excessive scrolling on individual pages. In E-commerce site development, navigation often makes the difference between turning a profit or losing money.

  4. Content
Good copy motivates your customer to action. Articulate your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and turn your website into a sales machine.

Typically you have about 10 seconds to tell a visitor "what you do" when they land on your home page. Be clear and concise.

Your website content should be motivating and accurately reflect your business. The first step is to decide what you want visitors to know about your business.

Develop a site map. With each page of the site you should answer the question... Why should I buy from YOU instead of your competitors, even if it costs me more?... If you don't know, then chances are your target market doesn't either!

  5. Calls to Action
You need to ask your site visitor to take the next step. It could be:
    • Buy Something
    • Download Free Report
    • Free Consultation
    • Free Trial Offer
    • Print Coupon
    • Contest
    • Newsletter Signup

But whatever you want them to do, you must ask them to do it.

  6. Marketing
Your Internet business, in some respects, is like opening a new location. If your customers or potential customers don't know you exist, they will not find you.

If they can't find you, they can't buy from you. There are many ways to drive customers to your site. Some of these include: traditional advertising, search engine marketing, link building, creating your own email lists, and sending emails.

"The view is great from up here."
Michelle George may have one of the best views in Lancaster. Her office at Gross Investments, on the 10th floor of the Griest Building, looks out over Penn Square, the Watt and Shand Building and from that height, a good portion of the cityscape looking South.

Climbing the heights is nothing new for Michelle. In early August she was named Partner at Gross Investments. “With my new promotion to partner, I am excited to help people with their investing needs, especially women who are the main financial drivers in our society. Being a working mom, I know how hard it can be to manage your own assets and keep up with your family. My goal is to help ease the financial stresses of my clients and give them a successful investment future.” Michelle can be reached at (717) 299-4431.

Gross Investments is a full service Financial Management company that offers services ranging from stock and bond portfolio management to retirement planning. It was founded over 20 years ago by Don Gross Jr.

"I recently had EZSolution assist me in purchasing a new computer system. They have also assisted our office with our network. In each case they have provided professional and thorough support. I was really stressed, thinking that I would lose a lot of time during the process. They had me up and working within the day. It was a seamless process. When I look back at other conversions we have gone through they were long and painful. Josh was great. A big thank you to the staff for helping us work more efficiently!"

    IT Challenge
    Windows 7 Update

The official release date of Windows 7 is now set for October 22, 2009. For some people, they are considering this D-day. That is the day it will be available on store shelves and pre-installed in new PCs.

Behind the scenes D-day is already here. Microsoft has already released the RTM version (release to manufacturing) to large companies that buy in volume and Technet service members like EZSolution.

The Vista era is closing; some say it never started. Whether you are a satisfied Vista user, an unhappy one or an XP hold out (we raise our hands here!), the good old days are gone forever. The Windows 7 Operating System is not as flashy as Vista. Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are gone. Windows 7 actually does less, and that's a good thing.

Windows 7 is designed to stay out of your way so you can work. It does away with annoyances like User Account Control and the old system tray. The OS is less of a resource hog. It is designed to run smartly on underpowered machines.

Libraries are introduced. Windows failed to get everyone to use My Documents, so now they have virtual folders for docs, pictures, music and videos, no matter where you store them.

You still can't upgrade to XP; you will need to start fresh, reinstalling your apps and recreating settings. This is not ideal, but probably more stable than putting an OS on top of 8 years' worth of XP and updates.

The compatibility issue is a big unknown. The base line seems to be if hardware is Vista compatible, then it is Windows 7 compatible.

Many of you have been holding off on hardware upgrades until the Windows Vista issue went away... say bye bye. There should be some superior deals available from the hardware vendors, who will be competing for the pent up demand. If you have questions, call us or talk to your tech.
